A couple of weeks ago I participated in Flushing Eco-Fest. Stonyfield Organic Kids generously provided me with a few hundred yogurt pouches to give away as samples. To say they were a hit would be an understatement.
The event was staffed by about a dozen teens from John Bowne High School's Agriculture Program and they were the first to try the yogurt. They loved the flavors and found the no spoons needed convenience of a pouch handy as they were busy assisting vendors and event attendees.
As the event came into full swing and the sun came out, families and kids made their way over to my booth. Most kids participated in the crafts I had set up for them, but literally every single one tried a yogurt! The children loved the fruit flavors and parents were happy to say "yes" to the treat. Parents loved that they were Organic and have no weird or artificial ingredients. I was especially impressed that while all the flavors were liked, the vegetable ones were the most popular; as a mom I always appreciate easy ways to get more veggies in my kids!
By the end of the event I only had 2 boxes left. I took them home and sent some to school for my kids' snack. You can freeze the pouches and they thaw by snacktime. But as good as they are my kids get bored with the same snacks everyday. So I headed over to the recipes section of the Stonyfield website.
I decided on Strawberry Yogurt Muffins, because I had the ingredients handy and because everyone in my family loves all things baked-goods. I like that the recipe incorporates whole wheat flour. And I also like that there is ample protein in the recipe - the recipe calls for two pouches (at 5g of protein each) and 2 eggs. My children go to public school so they get free breakfast and lunch, which is great, but its all carbs on top of carbs. I feel good about the protein in these muffins.
But handy ingredients and protein aside, the most important thing is: Oh. My. Gosh! These muffins are good! The recipe was super simple and doesn't require any special tools, and makes 12 generous muffins. They are so tasty, this recipe will definitely be making a repeat appearance in my home. They are moist and not too sweet, with a lovely perfect texture crust on the top.
The website has a ton of recipes and ways to use Stonyfield yogurt, which definitely makes me more apt to purchase more. Sometimes I get a bit wary of buying something new for my kids for fear they wont like it and I'll be stuck. But with so many ways to use Stonyfield products, from the obvious like smoothies and parfaits, to baked goods, to pasta dishes and marinades, you can be sure nothing will ever go to waste if you take a chance on a new flavor. Oh, and if you sign up for their free MOOOsletter they will send you a $1.50 coupon.
Definitely check out the Stonyfield Organic Kids line of yogurt snacks - you will not be disappointed. They make snacking easy at home or on the go, and with Stonyfield you can feel good about what you are feeding your kids.
