Spring Into Good Health

Get moving and eating better, affordably in Flushing

By Emily Griffin Sheahan May 9, 2019

Spring is just so lovely, especially here in Flushing with all our blooming trees. I feel like I can't walk a block outside without seeing a new color flower at every turn. And we've lucked out with rain at night, leaving the days sunny and beautiful. My kids have been enjoying the playground every afternoon after school.

So why not cash in on the good weather and the pep in your step and get healthy this spring? Check the events calendar for some amazing FREE fitness classes to fit every interest, and schedule. There is are 3 separate free weekly yoga classes, three weekly zumba sessions, boot camp, aerobics and plenty of hikes to choose from. And they are all drop-in, so no stress!

While you are at it, check out the new Races, Fun Runs and Walks guide posted, a collaboration between myself and Grace, the Bayside/Northeast Queens Macaroni Kid publisher. We'll be updating the guide throughout the summer, so be sure to check back. If you are interested in running but not quite ready for a 5k, you can always find an Open Run at a park near you. Open Runs are free and open to runners of all levels, including absolute beginners.

And of course, to compliment all that exercise, why not make a commitment to healthier eating too? Flushing CSA will be starting up its season soon and has a few more slots still open. (Don't worry if the site says its past the deadline to sign up, Flushing CSA has confirmed it is still accepting last minute members!) CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a great way to get super fresh, local, Certified Organic produce at a price that competes with the grocery store's non-organic produce, and to meet other local families.
